Freestanding vs Portable Tub Specs
Material and Build
The WOODBRIDGE tub is constructed from 100% high-gloss black LUCITE acrylic, reinforced with ASHLAND resin and fiberglass. This double-walled design provides significant durability and insulation to keep water warm. It weighs 88 pounds and supports up to 1,000 pounds. The SereneLife tub uses a blend of polypropylene and thermoplastic elastomer. It is designed to fold flat for storage, weighing only 1.07 ounces when collapsed. Its load capacity is listed at 440 pounds. The acrylic model offers a permanent, rigid structure, while the portable unit prioritizes flexibility and lightweight storage.
Dimensions and Depth
Both tubs share a similar length of approximately 59 inches, allowing for a full-body soak. The WOODBRIDGE model measures 31.5 inches wide and 22.9 inches deep, providing substantial volume for traditional bathing. The SereneLife unit is narrower at 23.6 inches wide. Its height is listed as 8.66 inches when folded, but it expands to hold water. The WOODBRIDGE depth is nearly three times greater than the folded height of the portable tub, offering a much deeper water experience for leg immersion and relaxation.
Mount Type
Both products are classified as freestanding, meaning they do not require attachment to walls or floors for support. The WOODBRIDGE tub is a permanent fixture designed to remain in one location, supported by a stainless steel bracket underneath. The SereneLife tub is also freestanding but is explicitly marketed as portable. It features sturdy, non-slip legs for stability on various surfaces, including patios or decks. While both sit independently, one is built for permanence and the other for mobility.
Color and Finish
The WOODBRIDGE tub features a matte black finish on the acrylic surface and matching matte black drain components. This creates a cohesive, contemporary look that requires specific care to maintain its high-gloss appearance. The SereneLife tub is available in dark gray, white, or blue. Its finish is made from slip-resistant plastic materials rather than coated acrylic. The matte black option on the WOODBRIDGE model offers a distinct luxury aesthetic, while the SereneLife provides more color variety for casual or outdoor settings.
Drain and Accessories
The WOODBRIDGE tub includes a matte black drain and overflow system integrated into the acrylic shell. It relies on standard plumbing connections for water removal. The SereneLife tub comes with an extendable drain hose that can reach up to 117.32 inches. This allows you to drain the tub directly into a bucket, floor drain, or RV setup without complex plumbing. The portable unit also includes a bath tray, cushion, and insulated lid set, offering a more complete accessory package out of the box compared to the basic fixture.

Frequently asked questions
What is the main difference between a freestanding tub and a soaking tub?
The primary difference lies in installation and portability. A freestanding tub, like the WOODBRIDGE model, is a permanent fixture made of durable acrylic that stays in place. A soaking tub, such as the SereneLife option, can be portable and foldable. You choose based on whether you want a fixed bathroom feature or a movable unit for recovery or small spaces.
How much space does a 59-inch freestanding tub require?
You need adequate floor space for the footprint and clearance for maintenance. The WOODBRIDGE 59-inch tub measures 31.5 inches wide and 22.9 inches high. It weighs 88 pounds, requiring a stable floor. Ensure you have room to access the drain and plumbing underneath. A smaller portable tub takes less permanent floor space.
Which bathtub material retains heat better for long soaks?
Acrylic tubs generally retain heat better than thin plastic or fabric units. The WOODBRIDGE tub uses double-walled acrylic reinforced with resin and fiberglass to insulate water. This keeps your bath warm longer. The SereneLife foldable tub is designed for cold plunges or shallow soaks, so it does not offer the same insulation for deep, hot immersion.
Can I move a freestanding acrylic tub after installation?
Moving a permanent acrylic tub is difficult due to its weight and plumbing connections. The WOODBRIDGE tub weighs 88 pounds and requires professional installation for drainage. In contrast, the SereneLife tub is foldable and weighs very little. You can easily move or store the SereneLife unit when not in use, making it ideal for temporary setups.
Is a matte black finish durable for daily use?
Matte black finishes require regular cleaning to maintain their appearance. The WOODBRIDGE tub features a matte black drain and finish. You must wipe it down to prevent water spots and mineral buildup. High-gloss acrylic surfaces are easier to clean. Choose matte black if you prefer the modern look and are willing to perform consistent maintenance.
What is the best tub for small bathrooms or apartments?
A foldable soaking tub is best for small spaces. The SereneLife unit is only 8.66 inches high and folds for storage. It fits in small homes or for outdoor recovery. A permanent 59-inch acrylic tub like the WOODBRIDGE requires a dedicated bathroom area. You cannot store it away when not in use, so it needs a fixed location.
